HK is...

Hong Kong is crowded. Humid. Dirty. Busy. HK is always buzzing with activity. HK is a place where fishmongers, feisty little old ladies, bankers, models, students, housekeepers, socialites all fight for their own little space in this tiny little island. HK is truly international and also 100% local. And HK is...home, at least for the next year!

After one week and 30+ apartment viewings, we finally found a flat we love that has everything we want (once we adjusted our notions of space, luxury and modernity from our SF/Tokyo standards to more realistic HK standards). The location is ideal - a short commute from Central, close to local markets and international dining options, connected to all of the public transportation options. The space meets the original requirements we were looking for (which was at least 700 square feet). The unit is well kept, the appliances well maintained and the decor very modern. The building has amenities - gym, pool, doorman. And the price is within the budget we ideally wanted. And an added bonus (something which I didn't even dare hope for given the crazy HK rental market) - our flat has a terrific harbour view. We couldn't believe our luck - we couldn't pass it up, so today we signed an agreement, which means HK is definitely home for the near future! Hoooray - I'm excited to call HK home!

yup, it does have everything we were looking for, plus a view! I think we super lucked out because other flats in the building with no view still go for more - the owner lives in china and the agent said the owner doesn't understand the HK market at all and doesn't know that current rent prices in HK are much higher than she's asking for. now we just need to find jobs to pay the rent....haha, we don't do things in order...
