I just remembered I wanted to write about naming conventions in Bali. This is unique to the Balinese, not shared by the rest of Indonesia. In Bali, whether you are a girl or a boy, you are given one of four names based on the order you are born:
Firstborn: Wayan
Secondborn: Made
Thirdborn: Nyoman
Fourthborn: Ketut
If you are the fifth child, the order starts all over again, so you are Wayan.
After meeting 4 Nyomans in 4 days, I noted to my fourth Nyoman that it seemed to be a very popular name, and he explained the naming convention, which I also recall reading in "Eat, Pray, Love."
I just found this very interesting, and potentially very confusing.
