The United Nations of Spain

Spain is fascinating in its diversity. We visited Madrid, Bilbao, Seville and Barcelona on this trip, and each city has been so unique - but it's not just the vibe of each city that is different - the culture, history and even the language has been different in each city. Spain actually has four official languages, of which Spanish, or Castillian, is only one. The others are Euskara (language of the Basques), Catalan and Galician. The only one we didn't get to hear on our trip is Galician. Euskara is the most interesting to hear because it's just utterly different. Catalan sounds like a mix between Spanish and French. The only thing I found in common between each of the cities we visited is the overuse of the word ¨vale,¨which literally constitutes about 20-40% of the words that come out of a Spaniard's mouth.
