Hangover 2: disturbing, gratuitous, racist

I loved the first Hangover movie. I thought it was well made, the dialogue witty and hilarious - a story about boys being boys, with some crazy outcomes.

So it was with great expectations that I went to watch Hangover 2 this weekend, only to come out feeling disturbed, unsettled and somewhat violated.

There are the non-sensical disturbing scenes, such as when they think Chow is dead and decide....to wrap him up in sheets and put him in an icebox. The bride's brother loses a FINGER, but is totally chillaxed about it and everyone else is nonchalant about it, even though he was studying to be a surgeon and was a gifted cello player?! The groom-to-be has ANAL sex with a ladyboy stripper (UM HELLO, RISK OF AIDS?), but the ending glosses it over and his bride marries him anyway without asking any questions even after the crazy guy mentions that the groom has semen inside him? WTF?!

The portrayal of Asians in the movie is unequivocally, disgustingly racist. My question is - where is the pouring of outrage from Asian-Americans?? Do we actually sit back and let Hollywood make a COMPLETE joke of the Asian race, then laugh together with the dumbass people who think it's actually funny while failing to recognize that it's EXACTLY this kind of seemingly innocuous humor at the expense of our entire race that keeps Asian Americans the runt of all of American society? By not protesting, by not displaying our outrage at the blatantly demeaning, demoralizing portrayal of all Asians in the movie, we basically allow other races (especially white people) to believe that "oh haha, look at all these funny jokes about Asians, but haha, it's all kind of true."

There are SOME people in America that MIGHT know a little better - probably small numbers of people in major metropolitan areas with a large Asian presence such as SF, LA, NY, Houston and DC - who have encountered Asians and know the stereotypes in the movies aren't even remotely true. But then there is the vast majority of dumbass Americans who watch the movie, laugh their asses off and walk away thinking that Asian men have small penises, Asian women are docile and stupid when around white men, all Asian people do is study and never have fun, Asian fathers may seem scary but all you need to do to gain their respect is stand up to them, etc. Hangover 2 is one GIGANTIC step backwards for Asian Americans and I find it truly despicable that Hollywood thinks it can make fun of Asians in a way that would NEVER, EVER be acceptable for other races. SHAME ON THE PRODUCERS, WRITERS, DIRECTORS AND ACTORS - and SHAME ON ANY AMERICAN who thinks it's funny and ok to make fun of Asians in such a degrading, derogatory manner.
